Dewey Selmon
1976 · Round 2 · Pick 60 · DT · Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Dewey Selmon was born on November 19, 1953, in Eufaula, Oklahoma, the middle of the three Selmon brothers who starred at OU. The nine Selmon children grew up working a 40-acre farm. Their parents banned weekday television and required at least a B average. He played at Eufaula High School and then on Oklahoma's defensive line from 1972 to 1975 with Lucious and Lee Roy, winning national titles in 1974 and 1975. He was a consensus All-American in 1975 with 25 career tackles for loss. Tampa Bay drafted him in the second round, 60th overall, in 1976, the expansion Buccaneers' first draft. He played nose guard and linebacker in 80 games for Tampa Bay and finished with San Diego in 1982. Tidbit: he earned a Ph.D. in philosophy from OU, is in the College Academic Hall of Fame, and entered the College Football Hall of Fame in 2024. Note: Grokipedia's account of his Bucs years is internally inconsistent, so I've left out exact season counts. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on April 9, 1976 (NewsBank page 81): "Lucious was a senior when Leroy and Dewey were OU freshmen."
