Dick Bowman

1953 · Round 15 · Pick 177 · G · New York Giants

Dick Bowman attended Ponca City High School and played guard at Oklahoma. The New York Giants drafted him in the 15th round, 177th overall, in 1953, and after Army service he played briefly for them. He earned a master's degree while working as a graduate assistant at OU. He later coached at Knox College (1965–1970) and Wabash College (1971–1973) and was assistant head coach at Army under Homer Smith. He died of complications of pneumonia in Edmond, Oklahoma, on April 2, 1983, at 52. Pro Football Reference has no player page for him. Slot note: Pro Football Reference's OU draft table gives pick 178, while OU and Wikipedia give 177. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on January 23, 1953 (NewsBank page 24): "NEW YORK-Eddie Crowder, Oklahoma quarterback; Dick Bowman, Oklahoma guard. [box text partly spaced; read from scan]."
