Dick Favor

1940 · Round 3 · Pick 17 · B · Philadelphia Eagles

Dick Favor was born in Crescent, Oklahoma, and played at Crescent High School. Before college he spent a year as a roughneck in the Oklahoma City oil field. He was a back at Oklahoma in 1938 and 1939, known as one of the best blocking backs in the country, and the Sooners went 16–3–1 in those two seasons. He quarterbacked the West in the 1940 East-West Shrine Game. Philadelphia drafted him in the third round, 17th overall, in 1940 and traded his rights to Cleveland that March. He died on January 16, 1991. Pro Football Reference has no player page for him. SoonerStats lists him on OU's roster for 1938 JR B, 1939 SR B. His listed size in 1939 was 6-0, 185 lb. SoonerStats gives his full name as Richard E. Favor. It gives his hometown as Crescent, OK. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on December 12, 1939 (NewsBank page 16): "Bert Bell, coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, said Monday he had obtained Chuck Cherundolo from the Cleveland Rams in exchange for negotiation rights to Dick Favor, University of Oklahoma halfback."
