Ed McQuarters
1965 · Round 18 · Pick 250 · G · St. Louis Cardinals
Ed McQuarters was born in Tulsa and played at Booker T. Washington High School. He was second-team All-Big Eight at Oklahoma in 1963. The St. Louis Cardinals drafted him in the 18th round, 250th overall, in 1965 and released him after a season. He then spent nine years at defensive tackle for the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders (1966–1974). He won the Grey Cup as a rookie, was a CFL All-Star from 1967 to 1969, and was the CFL's Most Outstanding Lineman in 1967. He lost his left eye in a home workshop accident before the 1971 season but kept playing through 1974. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1988. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on April 21, 1962 (NewsBank page 31): "Guard Ed McQuarters, Tulsa frosh, hefts 228, Tackle Dennis Ward goes 222, left end Glenn Condren 220 and right tackle Duane Cook 220."
