J. D. Runnels

2006 · Round 6 · Pick 195 · FB · Chicago Bears

J. D. Runnels was born in Midwest City, Oklahoma. At Carl Albert High School he helped win three state championships and set school records for career catches, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. At Oklahoma (2002–2005) he played in 53 games with 18 starts, mostly as a fullback and receiver, and caught 51 passes for 450 yards and five touchdowns. Chicago drafted him in the sixth round, 195th overall, in 2006. He played fullback for the Bears through 2007, had stints with Tampa Bay and Cincinnati, and played for the UFL's Florida Tuskers in 2010. He is now a football coach. Tidbit: after a loss to Texas Tech, a fan repeatedly interrupted his postgame interview by yelling "GO RAIDERS!", and the clip became well known. The Oklahoman wrote on April 29, 2006: "III James Douglas Runnels was the baby of his family, 10 years younger than brother Lenny and seven years younger than sister Tessa." The Oklahoman wrote on August 6, 2003: "Runnels’ mother, Kathie Runnels, died Tuesday morning after a long battle with cancer."
