Jackie Shipp
1984 · Round 1 · Pick 14 · LB · Miami Dolphins
Jackie Shipp was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and grew up in Stillwater, where he played high school football. At Oklahoma he set school records that still stand: 22 tackles in a game and 189 in a 12-game season. He ranks second in OU career tackles, behind Daryl Hunt. He was first-team All-Big Eight in 1982 and 1983 and a second-team All-American in 1983. Miami drafted him in the first round, 14th overall, in 1984. He played linebacker for the Dolphins through 1988 and for the Los Angeles Raiders in 1989. He coached OU's defensive line under Bob Stoops from 1999 to 2013, including the 2000 national title team, then coached at Arizona State and Missouri. Note: public sources on him are thin, so this bio is short. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio. Tulsa World wrote on December 17, 1998: "Moving a step closer to completing his staff, University of Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops announced Wednesday that former Sooner All-American Jackie Shipp has been added to the staff."
