James Hanna

2012 · Round 6 · Pick 186 · TE · Dallas Cowboys

James Hanna was born in Lakewood, Ohio. He played six-man football at Coram Deo Academy before moving to Flower Mound High School in Texas, where he caught 53 passes for 11 touchdowns as a senior. Oklahoma recruited him to convert to tight end. As a junior he caught seven touchdown passes, including a 76-yarder in a 180-yard game against Oklahoma State. He was second-team All-Big 12 as a senior in 2011. His 4.49-second 40 at the combine boosted his stock, and Dallas drafted him in the sixth round, 186th overall, in 2012. He played six seasons for the Cowboys (2012–2017), mostly as a blocker and special-teamer, and caught 37 passes for 374 yards in 78 games. Tidbit: as a rookie he was given No. 84, the number worn by Cowboys great Jay Novacek.
