Jim Thomas
1939 · Round 12 · Pick 102 · G · Chicago Cardinals
Jim Thomas was born in Oilton, Oklahoma, and played at Oilton High School. He played guard at Oklahoma from 1935 to 1938 and was nicknamed "Singer" for always singing in the shower room. The Chicago Cardinals drafted him in the 12th round, 102nd overall, in 1939, and he played 13 games for them in 1939 and 1940. He also sang with the Metropolitan Opera for a year. In World War II he was an artillery lieutenant under George Patton. He later taught school in Florence, South Carolina, where he died in 1981. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on December 10, 1938 (NewsBank page 10): "In addition to Young, other Sooners drafted included: Chicago Cardinals—Earl Crowder, back; Jim Thomas, guard. Pittsburgh—Hugh McCullough, back. New York—Gilford Duggan, tackle."
