Joe Bowden
1992 · Round 5 · Pick 133 · LB · Houston Oilers
Joe Bowden was born in Dallas and was an All-American at North Mesquite High School. He sat out his first year at Oklahoma under Proposition 48 rules. He was the Big Eight Defensive Newcomer of the Year in 1989, led OU with 116 tackles in 1990, and in 1991 was a first-team All-American and the Big Eight Defensive Player of the Year. That year he made 127 tackles and returned both of his interceptions for touchdowns. The Houston Oilers drafted him in the fifth round, 133rd overall, in 1992. He spent eight seasons with the franchise as it became the Tennessee Titans, starting at outside and then middle linebacker. He finished with Dallas in 2000, with 436 tackles and 12.5 sacks. He now coaches, and his Wikipedia infobox lists Bowling Green. Tulsa World wrote on September 5, 1990: "That good things would happen at the school where Bowden enrolled was considered a matter of fact when he was rated the best high school linebacker in Texas in 1987 and was named schoolboy All-America."
