Joey Mickey

1993 · Round 7 · Pick 190 · TE · Philadelphia Eagles

Joey Mickey was born in Oklahoma City. At Millwood High School he was a four-year starting tight end with 31 career touchdowns and was a SuperPrep All-American. At Oklahoma he was mostly a blocking tight end in a run-heavy offense, but he caught two touchdown passes in the 1991 Gator Bowl. Philadelphia drafted him in the seventh round, 190th overall, in 1993. He slipped in the draft after being unable to fully take part in the combine because of a personal issue. Dallas claimed him off waivers, and he played five games for the 1993 Cowboys, who won Super Bowl XXVIII. He later played for the WLAF's Barcelona Dragons. Tidbit: after football he founded the New Alternative Center of Oklahoma, a counseling center for substance and domestic abuse. Tulsa World wrote on July 18, 1993: "When Mickey went to Oklahoma after playing every down for four years at Oklahoma City Millwood High School at defensive end and tight end, Mickey chose to wear No. 82 for the Sooners instead of No. 88 like Jackson wore." The Oklahoman wrote on January 25, 2008: "Philadelphia cut Joey Mickey in Sept. 1993 a few months after drafting him in the seventh round."
