Jonathan Nelson

2011 · Round 7 · Pick 229 · DB · St. Louis Rams

Jonathan Nelson was born in Mansfield, Texas, and was a three-year starting cornerback and a track sprinter at Summit High School. After a redshirt year and an injury-shortened 2007 at Oklahoma, he became a starter late in 2009, finishing with 46 tackles and three interceptions. As a senior in 2010 he made 102 tackles and two interceptions, and he was honorable-mention All-Big 12 both years. The St. Louis Rams drafted him in the seventh round, 229th overall, in 2011, but released him from the practice squad. Carolina promoted him to the active roster that December, and in Week 16 he made seven tackles and an interception against Tampa Bay to earn NFC Defensive Rookie of the Week. He played two NFL games in all and was waived in August 2012. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio.
