Martin Chase

1998 · Round 5 · Pick 124 · DT · Baltimore Ravens

Martin Chase was born in Lawton, Oklahoma, and played at Eisenhower High School. He was second-team All-Big 12 at Oklahoma in 1997. Baltimore drafted him in the fifth round, 124th overall, in 1998. He later played for NFL Europe's Frankfurt Galaxy, New Orleans (2000–2002), Washington, the New York Giants and Jacksonville (2005), finishing with 60 tackles and one sack. Tidbit: in New Orleans he was part of a defensive line nicknamed "the Heavy Lunch Bunch," with fellow 325-pounders Norman Hand and Grady Jackson. Note: his Wikipedia article is very brief, so this bio is short. Pro Football Reference (PFR) lists him as Cecil Martin Chase: born December 19, 1974 in Lawton, OK; high school Eisenhower (OK); 6-2, 310 lb; position DT. PFR shows him with BAL 1999, NOR 2000-02, WAS 2003, JAX 2005 (55 games, 6 starts, 7 Approximate Value). PFR stat line: 6 yrs: 1.0 sack, 60 comb tackles (47 solo, 13 ast), 3 TFL. PFR shows no Pro Bowl or All-Pro honors. The Oklahoman wrote on January 20, 1994: "As a senior, Chase blocked four extra-point kicks and made 84 tackles (27 behind the line of scrimmage), four quarterback sacks and 20 hurries."
