Roy Williams
2002 · Round 1 · Pick 8 · DB · Dallas Cowboys
Roy Williams was born in Redwood City, California, and played quarterback, receiver and defensive back at James Logan High School. On Oklahoma's undefeated 2000 national title team he set a school record for tackles for loss by a defensive back (12). In 2001 he was a unanimous All-American, the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, and won the Nagurski Trophy and Thorpe Award. Nicknamed "Superman," he made the play OU fans still remember: a leap over the line in the 2001 Red River game that knocked the ball loose from Chris Simms, which Teddy Lehman returned for the clinching touchdown. Dallas drafted him eighth overall in 2002. He made five straight Pro Bowls (2003–2007) and was first-team All-Pro in 2003. He finished with Cincinnati and retired in 2011, with 593 tackles and 20 interceptions. He is now a sideline reporter for OU football games. The Oklahoman wrote on October 23, 2001: "Both became stars at James Logan High School, Williams on defense, Mackey on offense." A March 16, 2008 Oklahoman profile header reads "Hometown: Dallas."
