Steve Bryan

1987 · Round 5 · Pick 120 · DE · Chicago Bears

Steve Bryan was born in Wagoner, Oklahoma, and played at Coweta High School. He arrived at Oklahoma as a tight end, redshirted in 1982, and then moved to the defensive line. He started on the 1985 national title team and was first-team All-Big Eight in 1986. Chicago drafted him in the fifth round, 120th overall, in 1987 but waived him. Denver signed him during the 1987 players' strike, and he started all three replacement games. He played for the Broncos through 1988. Tidbit: his brother Rick Bryan was a unanimous All-American at OU and played 10 seasons for Atlanta. Note: public sources on him are thin, so this bio is short. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio. The Oklahoman wrote on February 10, 1982: "Those choosing OU included Steve Bryan of Coweta, Roy Owens of Tulsa Washington, Tony Rayburn of Douglass, Greg Strope of Tulsa East Central, Jeff Thornbrue of McLoud, and Chris Wilson of Carnegie." The Oklahoman wrote on September 15, 1984: "Nor does Steve Bryan, younger brother of Rick, the two-time OU All-America now a rookie starter for the Atlanta Falcons, and Mitch, another ex-Sooner."
