Tony Peters
1975 · Round 4 · Pick 82 · DB · Cleveland Browns
Tony Peters was born in Oklahoma City and played at Pauls Valley High School. He was second-team All-Big Eight on Oklahoma's 1974 national title team. Cleveland drafted him in the fourth round, 82nd overall, in 1975. After four seasons with the Browns he moved to Washington (1979–1985), where he made the Pro Bowl and won Super Bowl XVII after the 1982 season. In 1983 he was arrested at training camp and later pleaded guilty to conspiracy to traffic cocaine. He was suspended, fined and given probation, and was reinstated in 1984. He finished with 16 interceptions and became a high school coach and social studies teacher in Texas and Oklahoma. He lives in Tulsa. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on January 29, 1975 (NewsBank page 41): "One of the most surprising early-round choices was Peters, who was the fourth pick of the fourth round."
