Wade Walker

1947 · Round 22 · Pick 201 · T · Chicago Cardinals

Wade Walker was born in Mocksville, North Carolina. He was part of Jim Tatum's 1946 recruiting class at Oklahoma, which produced nine future All-Americans. He played tackle from 1946 to 1949, was all-conference all four years (one of only three Sooners to do so), was a two-time captain, and was a first-team All-American in 1949. In 1947 his teammates elected him co-captain midseason when Bud Wilkinson asked them to pick leaders. The Chicago Cardinals drafted him in the 22nd round, 201st overall, in 1947. He coached Mississippi State from 1956 to 1961 (22–32–2) and later served as athletic director at Mississippi State and Oklahoma. He died on December 18, 2013. Pro Football Reference has no player page for him. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on December 20, 1946 (NewsBank page 28): "RIGHT TACKLES—Wade Walker, Nute Trotter, Truman Wright, Bob Hinton."
