1996 · Round 6 · Pick 207 · DB · Dallas Cowboys
Wendell Davis was born in Wichita, Kansas, and was a two-time All-City linebacker at Wichita North High School. Coffeyville Community College moved him to cornerback, and he was an honorable-mention junior-college All-American before transferring to Oklahoma, where he played nickel back for two seasons. Dallas drafted him in the sixth round, 207th overall, in 1996. He became a core special-teams player for the Cowboys but had knee surgeries in 1997. He later played in the CFL, the XFL and the Arena Football League, where he won ArenaBowls with San Jose in 2002 and 2004. He later became head coach of the San Angelo Bandits and the Texas Revolution in Champions Indoor Football. His NFL totals are 13 tackles and two fumble recoveries. The Oklahoman wrote on August 7, 1994: "And defensive back Wendell Davis, who was ineligible last year after transferring from Coffeyville junior college, excelled in spring drills." Tulsa World wrote on July 20, 1996: "Though he started just two games in two seasons at OU, he is attempting to make the Dallas Cowboys roster as a sixth-round draft pick."
