Wes Sims
2005 · Round 6 · Pick 177 · OL · San Diego Chargers
Wes Sims was born in Weatherford, Oklahoma. At Weatherford High School he was a USA Today All-USA pick, helped win a Class 4A state title, and set state records in the shot put (65 feet) and discus (195 feet). He chose Oklahoma over Texas, Arkansas, Nebraska, Penn State and Florida State, was a Freshman All-American in 2001, and was on the 2000 national title team. He was drafted in the sixth round, 177th overall, in 2005. He played one game for San Diego and later spent time with Carolina and New Orleans. Source conflict: Wikipedia says Miami drafted him and then traded him to San Diego (with Jamar Fletcher, for David Boston), while OU's list shows the Chargers. Pro Football Reference's OU draft table also lists San Diego, round 6, pick 177, so two sources agree and this bio uses the Chargers. Note: the available information is limited, so this bio is short. The Oklahoman wrote on February 2, 2000: "Wes Sims grew up watching OU with his father, cheering for Brian Bosworth and Keith Jackson from their living room couch."
