Hal Lahar

Guard · 1 selection · deceased · OU 1938-1940

A 1941 NFL champion and all-star with the Bears, then a longtime college coach

Hal Lahar was born in Durant, Oklahoma, went to high school in Oklahoma City and was an All-Big Six guard for the Sooners under Tom Stidham. The Chicago Bears drafted him in 1941.

That season, his only one with the Bears before serving in the Navy during World War II, Chicago won the NFL championship. Lahar was selected for the NFL All-Star Game played in January 1942. That game was part of the NFL's early all-star series from 1938 to 1942, before the modern Pro Bowl began after the 1950 season. Pro-Football-Reference counts it as a Pro Bowl, and OU's Pro Bowl page lists it under 1941.

After the war he played three seasons for Buffalo in the All-America Football Conference. He later became head coach at Colgate and Houston.

This is an early-era selection, and sources are thin.
