Jerry Tubbs

Linebacker / center · 1 selection · deceased · OU 1954-1956

Unbeaten at OU and one of the first Cowboys ever voted to the Pro Bowl

Jerry Tubbs played three varsity seasons at Oklahoma, and the Sooners won all 31 games, with national championships in 1955 and 1956. Bud Wilkinson moved him to center and linebacker, and he was a unanimous All-American in 1956, finishing fourth in the Heisman voting behind teammate Tommy McDonald.

The Chicago Cardinals took him 10th overall in 1957. After a stop in San Francisco he joined the expansion Dallas Cowboys in 1960 and became their regular middle linebacker. In 1962 he was voted to the Pro Bowl, one of the first Cowboys to be selected, along with Eddie LeBaron, Bob Lilly, Don Perkins and Don Bishop.

He became a player-coach in 1965 and stayed with Dallas as an assistant for more than two decades after retiring as a player, coaching in five Super Bowls and winning two. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996.
