An NFL-leading 82 catches out of the backfield sent him to the Pro Bowl
Joe Washington, from Port Arthur, Texas, was a two-time first-team All-American at Oklahoma and a key player on the 1974 and 1975 national championship teams. He finished third in the 1974 Heisman voting and fifth in 1975, and left OU with 4,071 career rushing yards.
San Diego took him fourth overall in 1976, and he joined the Baltimore Colts in 1978. In 1979 he led the NFL with 82 receptions as a running back and added 884 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. That season earned his only Pro Bowl selection.
He later teamed with John Riggins in Washington, winning Super Bowl XVII, and finished his career in Atlanta. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
