Punter · Washington Commanders · active · OU 2008-2012

Tulsa's lefty punter and Washington's all-time leader, on his farewell tour

Tress Way was born in Tulsa and graduated from Union High School in 2008. At Oklahoma he redshirted his first year and switched to punter after a stint at kicker. He punted for the Sooners from 2008 to 2012, earning third-team All-American and second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2009, and completed his degree in interdisciplinary studies in December 2012.

Way signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2013 but was waived twice. Washington claimed him in August 2014, and he never looked back. As a rookie he led the NFL in gross punting average at 47.5 yards. In 2019 he led the league in yards per punt again, boomed the season's longest punt (79 yards), and earned second-team All-Pro honors. He has made three Pro Bowls (2019, 2022, 2025) and is Washington's franchise leader in punting yards.

On September 10, 2026, Way announced that he intends to retire after the 2026 season. As of October 8, 2026, he is an active punter for the Commanders, enjoying one final season.
