The No. 16 Oklahoma wrestling team (1-1) will host No. 1 Oklahoma State (2-0) on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. in McCasland Field House. The contest, which features five bouts between ranked wrestlers, is the first of two Bedlam matchups this season.

The Sooners are coming off a 25-14 win over Big 12-opponent North Dakota State on Sunday, Nov. 18. Six Sooners won their individual bouts, including three bonus-point victories at 133 pounds, 141 pounds and heavyweight. The win marked the first for new OU head coach Lou Rosselli.

The No. 17 Oklahoma wrestling team downed North Dakota State, 25-14, on Sunday afternoon inside McCasland Field House, marking the first dual win for new OU Head Coach Lou Rosselli.

The Sooners recorded six wins in the contest, including three bonus-point victories at heavyweight, 133 pounds and 141 pounds. Rosselli said he was happy with how his team responded in the dual.

“I think we had some people make weight a little bit better today, and their energy level was much better,” Rosselli said. “That gave them the ability to out-work their opponents most of the matches. We took a couple hits, but I think overall it was a good performance, and I think that the guys are getting better at understanding how you outwork your opponent.”

Despite three wins to end the match, the No. 17 Sooners fell to No. 11 Michigan, 27-15, in the home opener Friday night in McCasland Field House.

The Sooners picked up wins at 184 pounds, 197 pounds and heavyweight, including two wins by fall by junior Andrew Dixon (184 pounds) and redshirt senior Ross Larson (285 pounds).

“I think it’s nice for them to get wins. I think, obviously, Ross did his part, and I think that Andrew did his part and Brad (Johnson) sucked it up,” OU Head Coach Lou Rosselli said. “So, it was nice to see a few wins. Overall, certain people just don’t compete—they’re not competing hard enough. I can’t say it enough. There’s a level of competition that we’re not aware of just yet. Learning how to compete is our No. 1 priority, and wrestling and wrestling hard for seven minutes. We didn’t do that tonight.”

Oklahoma head wrestling coach Lou Rosselli announced Monday the signing of eight wrestlers to National Letters of Intent. The first-year head coach secured seven top-100 signees to his first class.

“This class is really important to me because it’s our first class," Rosselli said. "It’s a time we can grow together and do the things we want to do. They’ll get a great education and hopefully we can hold up our end and make them excellent wrestlers as well. It’s important for us to get off on the right foot, and I think we got some of the right guys. We’re excited for them to get here and get to work.”

The No. 18 Oklahoma wrestling team started the season strong at the Journeymen/ASICS Collegiate Classic. The 16-team event was held at the Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, N.Y.

Two Sooners took first place in their respective divisions, including freshman Dalton Duffield (125B) and junior DaWaylon Barnes (157A).

“I think our team’s effort was really good today,” Rosselli said. “I think we made some mistakes, and some of them are things we’ve been working on that are issues we have to handle. That’s a normal thing. I was proud of the way most of the guys fought. We had a couple of matches that got away from us, but in general we were good. We were okay today and we need to work on getting better.”

Duffield recorded a 3-0 record in the first tournament of his freshmen career. The rookie registered an 8-3 decision over Devin Brown of West Virginia in the first round, before a highlight-reel win by fall over Rider’s Brendan Calas in 1:34. Jens Lantz of Wisconsin injury defaulted in the finals for Duffield’s final win of the day.

The White team edged the Red squad, 21-16, in the 2016-17 Red-White Scrimmage, held Wednesday night in McCasland Field House. The scrimmage is held annually to kick off the upcoming wrestling season.

“I thought that the matches were pretty competitive tonight,” OU head coach Lou Rosselli said. “I think that the energy level needs to increase. We need to put more points on the board. We had a couple deficiencies that certain guys have, but overall, it was a good start. I don’t think that anybody expected to be perfect right now, so it’s something to build on, and we just need to keep getting better. It’s just the way it is. March is a long ways away.”

Freshman Dalton Duffield (White) and redshirt freshman Christian Moody (Red) started out the dual at 125 pounds, with Duffield recording a win by fall in 1:47. Duffield jumped out with an early takedown before the pin.

The Oklahoma wrestling team will hold its annual Red-White Scrimmage at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, inside McCasland Field House. Admission to the event is free.

The scrimmage will feature nine bouts and the Sooners will be divided into two teams. The 149-pound match between Davion Jeffries and Noah Teaney will take place earlier in the day due to class schedules.

The Sooners, ranked No. 20 in the Intermat Dual Meet Polls, return four NCAA qualifiers from last season in redshirt seniors Clark Glass (165 pounds), Ross Larson (285 pounds) and Matt Reed (174 pounds), and sophomore Davion Jeffries (149 pounds). Jeffries was also the 2016 Big 12 Runner-Up as a true freshman.

Oklahoma head wrestling coach Lou Rosselli announced Tuesday the addition of Hunter Stieber to his staff. Stieber, who comes off a decorated collegiate career at Ohio State University, will serve as volunteer assistant coach.

“We are glad to have Hunter as part of our staff,” Rosselli said. “He is still competing and will be able to train with our 141-157 pounders. His work ethic and passion for the sport will help our student-athletes grow.”

Stieber, who hails from Monroeville, Ohio, spent the last five seasons wrestling for the Buckeyes. The role at Oklahoma marks the first coaching duties of his career.

New University of Oklahoma head wrestling coach Lou Rosselli officially announced Keith Gavin and Michael Lightner as his assistant coaches on Monday.

“I am excited to have Keith and Mike on board here at Oklahoma,” Rosselli said. “They are world-class wrestlers and each has a great work ethic. Their knowledge of the sport and the way they live their lives will help our student-athletes develop on and off the mat.”

Gavin joins the Sooners after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Virginia. Gavin helped lead the Cavaliers to the 2015 ACC championship and a 19th-place finish at the 2015 NCAA Championships. Seven UVA wrestlers qualified for the 2015 national tournament, including Nick Sulzer, who earned All-America status at 165 pounds. In 2016, five Cavaliers advanced to NCAAs under Gavin's instruction.

Lou Rosselli, associate head coach for the Ohio State wrestling team, has accepted an offer to become the new head coach at the University of Oklahoma.

Ohio State head coach Tom Ryan confirmed this morning that Rosselli is leaving to take over the Oklahoma program after serving on his OSU staff since 2006.

“Personally it’s an emotional time,” Ryan said. “Lou is a guy who, when I accepted the (OSU) job, he and I had a similar vision in building something special. He’s been part of some special things here. In the same breath, I’m so excited for him and his family. He’s poured himself into the sport and people. This is a great opportunity for him.”

Ryan Millhof, who placed seventh at 125lbs for OU, said he has requested a release from the school.

He's the first athlete to leave after a string of departures from the coaching and training staff. Three former Sooners -- all NCAA champions -- have left the program. Cody Brewer and Andrew Howe both went to Northwestern and Kendric Maple just signed on as assistant coach at Purdue.

Mark Cody, who led the Sooner coaching staff for five years, stepped down earlier this month. Long-time assistant Michael Lightner was named interim head coach.

Mark Cody announced Thursday that he has resigned as the University of Oklahoma's head wrestling coach after five years at the post.

"I am extremely grateful to have had the privilege to coach at the University of Oklahoma," said Cody. "I believe it is time for new leadership and for this reason I am resigning effective immediately. I want to wish nothing but the best for everyone associated with the program."

The Sooners were joined by friends, family and fans to highlight the past season’s achievements with dinner, awards and a social. Several wrestlers received awards handed out by head coach Mark Cody, associate head coach Michael Lightner, assistants Andrew Howe and Kendric Maple and trainer Chris Watson.

The NCAA revealed the Division I wrestling championship brackets on Wednesday evening. The tournament will be held on March 17-19 inside Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Three Sooners received seeds in No. 5 Ryan Millhof (125 pounds), No. 4 Cody Brewer (133 pounds) and No. 15 Clark Glass (165 pounds). Davion Jeffries (149 pounds), Matt Reed (174 pounds) and Ross Larson (285 pounds) also earned bids to the championship.

OU’s one-two punch of Ryan Millhof (125) and Cody Brewer (133 pounds) each grabbed a conference crown at the Big 12 Championship finals on Sunday afternoon. Aditionally, Brewer was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the championship. The two-day tournament was held at the Sprint Center.

Six Sooners punched their ticket to the NCAA Championships in Millhof (125 pounds), Brewer (133 pounds), Davion Jeffries (149 pounds), Clark Glass (165 pounds), Matt Reed (174 pounds) and Ross Larson (285 pounds).

OU wrestling coach Michael Lightner has been promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach, head coach Mark Cody announced Tuesday.

Lightner was named an OU assistant on August 27, 2009, and his duties include recruiting, directing summer camps and training and instructing OU wrestlers. With the promotion, the Marlow, Okla., native will continue recruiting efforts for the program as well as his involvement with student-athlete instruction.

The University of Oklahoma wrestling team held its annual Red/White Scrimmage Tuesday night inside McCasland Field House. The Red team defeated the White squad by a score of 24-18.

“We want to definitely improve on what we did last year at the NCAA tournament,” OU Head Coach Mark Cody said. “We’re trying to build this, and we’ve got a whole new philosophy. Our philosophy is to build it slow, build it strong, and that’s what we’re trying to do. We’re asking a lot out of these guys. We’re holding very high standards for them, and I think that we can really improve on what we did last year.”
