Sydney Romero
Infielder · Oklahoma City Spark · AUSL · active · OU 2016-2019
Olympian, coach and one of the AUSL's best hitters
Sydney Romero is from San Diego and played at Vista Murrieta High School. She comes from a softball and baseball family: her older sister is pro softball star Sierra Romero.
At Oklahoma (2016–2019) she made an immediate impact. As a freshman she struck out only four times in 211 at-bats, and in Game 1 of the 2016 WCWS finals against Auburn she hit a three-run homer as the Sooners won the national championship. OU won it all again in 2017. As a senior in 2019 she led the nation with 176 total bases, was named Big 12 Player of the Year and made first-team All-America. She left OU as the program's all-time leader in at-bats and doubles.
The USSSA Pride took her third overall in the 2019 NPF Draft, and she made the All-NPF team as a rookie. In 2021 she represented Mexico at the Tokyo Olympics. In 2025 she hit the title-clinching home run for the Utah Talons in the first AUSL championship series. In 2026, for the Oklahoma City Spark, she hit .376 with nine home runs, made the All-AUSL Team and won a Rawlings Gold Glove.
Romero also coaches. In July 2026 Oregon promoted her to associate head coach. As of October 8, 2026, she plays for the Spark.
