Stoops insist he won't bench quarterback Landry Jones: Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops insisted on Monday there is nothing that would make him bench quarterback Landry Jones.

OU's Justin Brown OK After Injury

Brown suffers bruised chest: Oklahoma wide receiver Justin Brown suffered what appeared to be a right shoulder injury after his second big punt return midway through the second quarter against Florida A&M.

Wide receivers coach Jay Norvell, however, clarified Monday that the injury was chest bruise, and that he expects Brown to be good to go for OU’s next game in two weeks against Kansas State.

“I think he’s gonna be fine,” Norvell said. "He just kind of came down on the football and kind of bruised his chest plate a little bit. He looked like Mike Tyson punched him in the chest or something. He was really deflated after that. We took him out after that and let Durron (Neal) play. He just got a little chest bruise.”

Sooners start slow and roll late: Landry Jones faced pressure on nearly every snap, had trouble finding his receivers.

The running game bogged down most of the night. The specials teams allowed two blocked kicks, one that led to a touchdown.

It wasn't pretty, nearly a disaster actually, but the Sooners found a win to grind out a win.

Riding its defense all night and scoring a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter, No. 4 Oklahoma survived a scare by slogging out a 24-7 win over Texas-El Paso on Saturday night.

Oklahoma Tight End Suspended for Season Opener

TE Geneo Grissom has been suspended: Sophomore tight end Geneo Grissom has been suspended for Oklahoma’s season opener Saturday at UTEP for violating a team rule, a source close to the team confirmed to The Oklahoman. Read more:

Grissom moved from defensive end to tight end just before summer workouts began and was flourishing in the role. Stoops said two weeks ago that he'd moved to the top of the depth chart ahead of junior-college transfer Brannon Green and true freshman Taylor McNamara, who were battling for the job in the spring.
