While former Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson continues to await reinstatement from the NFL and ponder his football future, his coach with the Minnesota Vikings said he would welcome Peterson back.

In the first public comments from a Vikings official about the subject since Peterson was suspended on Nov. 18, Mike Zimmer said he "will be in [Peterson's] corner" if he returns to the Vikings in 2015.

"Adrian was always great with me. I think he's a good person. I think obviously he's a great running back, and if it works out that way and things work out and he gets his life in order -- that's the most important thing, he gets his life in order, he gets the opportunity to come back -- then I will be in his corner whatever the decision is made.

"I think he would add value to any team, to be honest with you. I think the kid's a heck of a football player." (ESPN.com)

Defensive tackle Jordan Phillips announced Tuesday afternoon on Twitter that he will forgo his final two seasons of eligibility and declare for the 2015 NFL Draft.

“To sooner nation thank your for a great four years at the best university in America,” Phillips tweeted. “After a thorough but difficult decision I have decided to enter the 2015 NFL draft. Thanks for your support through everything.”

The 6-foot-6, 334-pounder from Towanda, Kan., became one of the best players on the OU football team this season as the nose guard in the Sooners’ 3-4 scheme.

He started all 13 games this season, recording 32 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, two sacks, one fumble recovery and a pass breakup. (The Oklahoman)

Former Oklahoma running back DeMarco Murray broke the franchise single-season rushing record for the Dallas Cowboys, passing Emmitt Smith in the first quarter of Sunday's 44-17 win over the Washington Redskins.

Murray set the mark with a 32-yard run that included a nice cutback, leaving safety Ryan Clark flat-footed at the line of scrimmage. Murray finished with 100 yards on 20 carries to end the season with 1,845 yards, bettering Smith's tally of 1,773 yards in 1995.

The University of Oklahoma was saddened to learn of the passing of Mike Treps, who passed away in Norman at the age of 81. Treps served his alma mater in a number of capacities in a career that spanned over three decades as both a broadcaster and as a publicist.

“On behalf of everyone associated with Oklahoma Athletics, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Mike Treps,” said OU vice president for intercollegiate athletics and director of athletics, Joe Castiglione. “Mike poured his heart and soul into the Sooners for many years in a number of roles. A proud OU graduate, Mike served his alma mater working in the OU Athletics department as director of sports information after beginning his tenure at OU working as the university’s director of media information.

“Mike will be fondly remembered by Oklahoma fans for spending 24 seasons as a member of the OU Football radio broadcast team and the voice of Oklahoma Baseball for 17 years. His lasting contributions to Oklahoma Athletics will always be appreciated by Sooners everywhere.”

Jozsef Szendrei

Oklahoma basketball strength coach Jozsef Szendrei has been dismissed after the OU compliance staff discovered an NCAA extra-benefit violation, sources confirmed Monday evening.

The violation came during the men’s basketball team’s trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament late last month, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

A booster provided cash to a traveling staffer, who was supposed to pass the money along to players.

The University of Oklahoma men's basketball team will be spending its 2015 Christmas in Hawai'i.

Oklahoma is one of eight teams that will participate in the 2015 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawai'i. The field for the seventh annual event — to be played Dec. 22, 23 and 25, 2015 — also includes Auburn, BYU, Harvard, New Mexico, Northern Iowa, Washington State and tournament host Hawai'i.

Four of the teams participated in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, including OU, BYU, Harvard and New Mexico.

The Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic will feature 12 games through three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through the bracket. The two teams that remain undefeated throughout will face off in the championship game on the final day of the tournament.

A day after Oklahoma picked up two important defensive commitments, it lost one of its longtime defensive end commits.

Tyrell Jacobs, a three-star prospect from Metairie, La., decommitted Saturday. Jacobs had been committed to the Sooners since July.

Jacobs’ decommitment leaves OU with one defensive end commit in its 2015 recruiting class, Kenneth Mann from Burleson, Texas. The Sooners also have a commitment from Jenks defensive tackle Marquise Overton. (The Oklahoman)

Ricky DeBerry, a heralded senior prospect from Mechanicsville, Va., committed to Oklahoma.

DeBerry, who drew more than 50 scholarship offers, is the No. 10 outside linebacker and No. 122 prospect in the class of 2015, according to the recruiting service Rivals.com.

"They do a lot things I want to do on defense like rushing the passer," Deberry said, according to Rivals.com. "They've told me I can be like Eric Striker. They have great academics, great fan support and they're overall great people." (SI.com)

Trevor Knight will start, Geneo Grissom and Julian Wilson are out and Sterling Shepard is questionable again.

The Oklahoma football team will play Clemson on Dec. 29 in the Russell Athletic Bowl and Knight will get his first start since early November when the Sooners lost to Baylor.

Coach Bob Stoops said Knight will make his first start after missing games against Texas Tech, Kansas and Oklahoma State. Freshman Cody Thomas started the three previous games.

Six Sooners were named to the All-Big 12 First Team as voted on by the league’s coaches, the conference announced Wednesday. OU’s offensive unit had four members receive first team status in running back Samaje Perine, wide receiver Sterling Shepard and offensive tackles Daryl Williams and Tyrus Thompson. On the defensive side of the ball linebacker Eric Striker and cornerback Zack Sanchez each earned the accolade.

In addition to his first-team honors, Perine was named the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year. He becomes the third Oklahoma running back to be picked as Offensive Freshman of the Year, joining Adrian Peterson (2004) and De’Mond Parker (1996). The Pflugerville, Texas, native led the Big 12 in rushing, totaling 1,579 yards on the year, including an FBS single game record-setting performance of 427 yards against Kansas (11/15). Perine also scored 21 rushing touchdowns, a Big 12 record for rushing touchdowns in a season by a freshman.

Perine becomes the first OU freshman to be named to the All-Big 12 First Team since linebacker Travis Lewis was recognized in 2008. The last freshman on offense to achieve the honor was Peterson in 2004.

Four Sooners were named to the Associated Press All-Big 12 First Team Monday. Tackle Daryl Williams and running back Samaje Perine were on the first-team offensive unit, while linebacker Eric Striker and cornerback Zack Sanchez represented the Sooners on the first-team defensive squad.

In addition to being named a unanimous first-team honoree, Perine was also voted the Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year.

Oklahoma also landed four student-athletes on the AP All-Big 12 Second Team. Tackle Tyrus Thompson and wide receiver Sterling Shepard represented the offense, while defensive tackle Jordan Phillips and linebacker Dominique Alexander were members of the defensive unit.

Oklahoma used a balanced offensive attack and stingy defense to run away with a 68-39 victory over North Texas Sunday afternoon.

Nine players scored for the Sooners (5-2) in their 29-point victory. OU also forced the Mean Green (0-6) into a season-high 37 turnovers, scoring 38 points off the miscues.

Oklahoma used two impressive runs in the first half – including a 16-2 spurt to close out the opening 20 minutes – to break open its 40-16 halftime advantage. Not only did the Sooners turn the Mean Green over 23 times in the opening half which resulted in 21 points, they held them to five total field goals (5-of-21).

The Sooners, coming off a 1-2 finish at the Paradise Jam, had eight players score in the opening half, led by senior Sharane Campbell-Olds and junior Kaylon Williams with eight points each.

Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine was introduced on Monday as the AP’s Big 12 offensive newcomer of the year and also was a unanimous first-team all-league selection.

Perine, who averaged 131.6 yards per game, is the first freshman in the conference’s 19-year history to lead the league in rushing. He is also the first Oklahoma running back to capture the Big 12’s rushing title and first to earn the newcomer award since Adrian Peterson in 2004.

Perine, who registered an FBS-record 427 rushing yards against Kansas, ended with a league’s-best 21 touchdowns. He also led all freshmen in rushing yards this season and had four games with 150 yards or more.

The University of Oklahoma wrestling team fell to No. 9 Oklahoma State, 25-11, Sunday afternoon inside Gallagher-Iba Arena in the first of two Bedlam matchups this season.

In the contest, the Sooners registered three match victories at 133 pounds, 157 pounds and 174 pounds. OU head coach Mark Cody said Bedlam is an exciting event of which to be a part.

“It sure is disappointing to come out on the losing side of it, but it’s an exciting event and as far as the guys go, our aggressive guys won and the guys who waited around for something to happen didn’t win,” Cody said.

Cody continued that with quality duals against tough teams in Missouri and Cornell, he felt that his squad was match ready.

“We cleaned up a lot of mistakes in those matches, but you know how it goes,” Cody explained. "Sometimes it takes a few more matches to get them to believe that this is what you’re going to do and things aren’t going to come easy. You have to fight hard.”

Ryan Spangler scored a season-high 18 points to help No. 22 Oklahoma defeat Missouri 82-63 Friday night in the SEC/Big 12 challenge. Buddy Hield had 17 points and three steals and Isaiah Cousins added 16 points for the Sooners, who shot 57 percent from the field and made 10 of 20 3-pointers.

But what changed the game was the way Oklahoma defended after halftime. The Sooners opened the second half on a 15-0 run. Missouri (4-4) didn't score for the first 5:16 of the second half and missed its first seven shots after the break. It's a big step for a team that wasn't always focused on getting stops a year ago.

Former Oklahoma running back Brennan Clay tweeted on Sunday that his wife Gina D'Agostini was cheating on him with Cowboys running back Demarco Murray. Tonight he posted a photo of what he says is a text message conversation between Murray and D'Agostini from October, after Clay had flown to San Diego to workout for the Chargers. After being informed that Clay is gone, Murray supposedly asks D'Agostini "So I can fuck u in your bed now," to which D'Agostini replies "Is that where you want to fuck me? But yes." Clay also posted a photo of D'Agostini's contacts, where Murray is listed as "Spray Tan." (Deadspin)

We need your help!

We started the season with a strong November by playing a tough schedule to challenge our guys. We did a lot of good things, but we also know there are areas where we need to improve. We like this group. They play hard and together. And we are committed to getting better throughout the season.

This is where you come in. We’ve seen some great growth in attendance over the past couple of years for our premier home games. And we’ve seen some growth already this season, particularly with the involvement of OU students. In fact, we’ve made several enhancements to our game day environment. Now we’re asking you to help us take the next step by turning out the largest December basketball crowds OU has seen in years.

We play four home games this December, starting with a crucial one this Friday night (Dec. 5) against Missouri at 8:30 p.m. as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. It’s the night before the Bedlam football game and we need the Lloyd Noble Center filled and rocking. (As you know, when the LNC is full, it getsLOUD!)

Please plan on being at the game early this Friday and making a lot of noise. And, if you cannot make it to any game and have season tickets, PLEASE find someone to use them or donate them to a local elementary school through our Sooners Give Back program (more info is available here – it’s easy).Unused season tickets is actually our biggest attendance challenge at this point. And only you can help us with this.

We hope you understand how critical this is to our program. We’ve made some good strides in our time here at OU. Our young men are growing off the court, we are seeing results on the court and our recruiting is going well. We’re excited about the next few months as well as the next few years of Sooner Basketball. However, we need your help to keep growing this program to where we all want it to be.

Center Ty Darlington has earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-America First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.

Darlington follows in the footsteps of his predecessor, center Gabe Ikard, who was a three-time Academic All-America honoree. Ikard also became the first member of the Sooners’ football squad to be named Academic All-America of the Year in 2013. The 2014 season marks the fifth consecutive year that Oklahoma Football has boasted an Academic All-America selection.

“Ty Darlington is one of many young men on our team who exemplify what is good about collegiate athletics,” head coach Bob Stoops said. “He’s an extremely bright young man, something that he’s demonstrated both in the classroom and on the football field. He’s also actively involved in a number of campus organizations and charity work, showing great passion in all that he does.”

Oklahoma sophomore wide receiver Derrick Woods has been removed from the team indefinitely for violating team rules, coach Bob Stoops announced Tuesday afternoon

Woods, a former four-star prospect from Inglewood, Calif., signed with the Sooners in the recruiting class of 2012. He was part of a 2012 wide receiver class that included Sterling Shepard andDurron Neal, but was never able to make much of an impact on the field.

Oklahoma starting quarterback Trevor Knight will miss Saturday's game against Oklahoma State, coach Bob Stoops announced during his news conference on Monday.

Knight has missed the Sooners' past two games after suffering a neck injury against Baylor on Nov. 8.

"He will not be cleared," Stoops said Monday. "So we'll proceed as we have the last couple of games at quarterback."
