MBB: Student Season Tickets Sold Out

The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department announced Wednesday that student season tickets are sold out for the 2016-17 OU men’s basketball season. The sellout occurred less than 24 hours after tickets went on sale – the fastest sale of student tickets in the Lon Kruger era.

Students who were unable to purchase season tickets will still have opportunities to attend games in the upcoming season. All non-conference games with the exception of Memphis (Dec. 17) and Florida (Jan. 28) will have free entry with a valid OU student ID. All other home games will offer $5 student tickets at the door based on availability.

“We are very grateful for our students selling out their section so quickly,” OU Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Programs and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione said. “The special atmosphere the students have helped create in the Lloyd Noble Center the past few years has been incredible and we look forward to it continuing this season. I encourage all Sooner fans to continue the support our students have shown and pack the Lloyd Noble Center starting in November.”

Sooners To Use Multiple Cornerbacks At Right Corner Spot

On Monday, senior safety Ahmad Thomas voiced his frustration over the battle going on for the (right) corner spot.

“It’s more competitive,” Thomas said. “It was way more competitive (this week) because that spot’s still open and it’s just kind of frustrating because we’re still dealing with it throughout the season, but they’re stepping up now. I mean, they should’ve stepped up before, but they’re stepping up.”

Senior Offensive Lineman Erick Wren Rewarded With Scholarship

It was a good Monday for Erick Wren. A really good Monday.

The OU senior offensive lineman got the surprise he had always dreamed of when head coach Bob Stoops announced that he had been put on scholarship in front of all of his teammates during an afternoon pre-practice meeting.

"It was a great feeling. I didn't expect it to come like that," Wren said. "It came as a surprise and it feels good when all your hard work pays off. At that moment it paid off, but we still have to work for other things. That's just one of many goals accomplished. That's a major one, but I still have more."

Wrestling: Rosselli Announces Assistant Coaches

New University of Oklahoma head wrestling coach Lou Rosselli officially announced Keith Gavin and Michael Lightner as his assistant coaches on Monday.

“I am excited to have Keith and Mike on board here at Oklahoma,” Rosselli said. “They are world-class wrestlers and each has a great work ethic. Their knowledge of the sport and the way they live their lives will help our student-athletes develop on and off the mat.”

Gavin joins the Sooners after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Virginia. Gavin helped lead the Cavaliers to the 2015 ACC championship and a 19th-place finish at the 2015 NCAA Championships. Seven UVA wrestlers qualified for the 2015 national tournament, including Nick Sulzer, who earned All-America status at 165 pounds. In 2016, five Cavaliers advanced to NCAAs under Gavin's instruction.

“I’ve known Coach Rosselli for a while, so I’m very excited to work with him and be on staff with Coach Lightner,” Gavin said. “I think we have a really great staff in place and a talented team that is only going to get better. I think we have some work to do, but the sky is the limit for this program."

Ohio State Blows Out Oklahoma 45-24

No. 3 Ohio State pushed No. 14 Oklahoma around all night in an easy 45-24 win, rushing 48 times for 291 yards as the Sooners struggled to contain the Buckeyes’ electric ball carriers.

The Sooners (1-2) had been stiff against the run in their first two games this season, but they had no answers for Ohio State (3-0). Quarterback J.T. Barrett joined running backs Mike Weber and Curtis Samuel in running through, around and over OU’s defense.

“They got us out of a lot of our stuff, made it a physical game, and we didn’t react well to it,” defensive coordinator Mike Stoops said.

QB Austin Kendall Thinks Baker Mayfield Will 'Light Up' Ohio State's Defense

Freshman quarterback Austin Kendall was interviewed on Sooner Sports TV and had some quote board material at the ready for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

When asked what his impressions were of Ohio State's defense, Kendall didn't seem too impressed.

"I've seen that they have a really basic defense," he said. "I think we can go out there, I mean Baker, and he'll light them up and I'm really looking forward to it if my number is called and I think I can do the same." (The Oklahoman)

Urban Meyer: Crowd Noise Is A Concern Against Oklahoma

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said he anticipated a raucous environment Saturday in Norman.

“It's a concern,” Meyer said of the noise. “Wednesday and Thursday we'll pump crowd noise in like we normally do.

“This will probably be one of the loudest stadiums in the country.”

That hasn't typically been the reputation of Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium and Bob Stoops on Monday again expressed regret for his 2008 call-out of Sooners fans ahead of a home game against Texas Tech.

Riley: Pace Isn't An Issue For Samaje Perine

Running back Samaje Perine entered the season needing less than 1,100 yards to become OU’s all-time leading rusher. After two games, he still needs a little less than 1,000 to set the mark. He’s only rushed for 89 yards in two games.

Offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley doesn’t think Perine will have a problem reaching the mark.

“His pace, after two games last year, was probably to have 200 yards the whole season and that changed quite a bit,” Riley said. “It always comes and goes in this offense. There are games where these guys have big games and those guys have big games. Those are things you have to judge at the end of the year.” (Norman Transcript)

Cornerback Spot Is Open According To Mike Stoops

After Dakota Austin's struggles in Saturday's 33-23 loss to Houston, Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops said the cornerback spot opposite Jordan Thomas was “pretty open.”

Austin and Parrish Cobb, who replaced Austin for a time Saturday, are the most likely candidates, though Michiah Quick is also in the mix.

“We'll see who is the most consistent player out there,” Stoops said. “We need somebody to be consistent. You aren't going to win every 50-50 ball but you have to win your share.

Lincoln Riley: Don't Blame Offensive Line in Loss

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was sacked five times during Saturday's 33-23 loss to Houston.

Houston Handles Oklahoma In Season Opener, 33-23

No. 15 Houston delivered the first shocker of the college football season, slaying the third-ranked Sooners 33-23 in the Advocare Texas Kickoff before a crowd of 71,016 at NRG Stadium.

The victory – one of the most significant in school history – could be feeding the Cougars for months to come.

UH (1-0) threw its name into the early season discussion for the College Football Playoff, a seat at the big boy’s table currently not reserved for the Cougars as a member of the Group of Five.

And the win comes just days before UH will make a formal presentation to the Big 12 about joining the league.

Philadelphia Trades Sam Bradford to Minnesota

The Minnesota Vikings acquired former Oklahoma and veteran QB Sam Bradford from the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday morning.

The move comes just days after Vikings starter Teddy Bridgewater suffered a season-ending knee injury in practice, and it seemingly makes Chase Daniel the Eagles' starter – at least until rookie Carson Wentz is healthy (broken ribs) and ready to take over.
