Adrian Peterson To Start For Washington Redskins

Running back Adrian Peterson will make his season debut when Washington Redskins host Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Peterson was named Washington starting running back, head coach Jay Gruden announced on Wednesday. The 13-year league veteran was inactive in team's season-opener against Philadelphia Eagles, instead, Gruden decided to start second-year back Derrius Guice.

Guice, who missed his entire rookie season due to a torn ACL, suffered a meniscus injury in the loss to the Eagles and could miss up to eight weeks per Washington Post's Les Carpenter.

While in Washington, the 34-year-old’s career has experienced a renaissance -- rushing for 1,042 yards last season.

Peterson’s teammates were mystified he wasn’t activated in Sunday's 27-32 loss and tackle Morgan Moses called it “slap in the face."

Gruden when asked about his decision to sit Peterson and if he’ll do it again, "that's in the past," he told the Washington Post. “We'll worry about (that) when they're both healthy again. If that decision has to come again."

With Guice injured, Gruden said Peterson is in “a good place” after being activated.

Giants WR Sterling Shepard In Concussion Protocol

WR Sterling Shepard has entered the NFL’s concussion protocol.

On Monday, New York Giants coach Pat Schumer announced Shepard would undergo concussion related tests. The team didn’t disclose when Shepard suffered the apparent concussion after only missing a single snap against the Cowboys.

"Yeah, he's getting tested," Shurmur told ESPN.com. "He has to go through some of the testing. It appears is he might be in the protocol here. But each guy is different, as youu know. We'll just have to see how it goes here."

Shepard provided six catches for 42 yards in productivity in the season-opening 35-17 Giants loss to Dallas Cowboys.

Shurmer later told reporters in a conference call, “Shepard may be dealing with a concussion.” Shepard was then placed in the league's concussion protocol.

Shepard's status is unclear at best for Sunday's game against Buffalo Bills.

Bengals RB Joe Mixon Slowed By Sprained Ankle

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon is off to a slow start in-part to an injury.

Mixon, the league’s 4th leading rusher last season, left Sunday's game in the 2nd half and didn’t return after suffering an ankle injury. The 23-year-old underwent an MRI that reportedly came back ‘good,’ according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

The Bengals are hopeful he will be available for Sunday's San Francisco 49ers contest and have listed him day-to-day. "Certainly could have been a lot worse," Bengals' coach Zac Taylor announced.

Mixon’s 10 yards in six carries in Sunday's 20-21 Seattle loss was his second lowest career total since making his NFL debut.

In 2018 season, Mixon had a breakout season and recorded 1,168 rushing yards, 296 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns.

The Bengals host the 49ers on Sunday.

Baker Mayfield Suffers Bruised Wrist

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield had his right hand examined following the Browns' loss to Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Mayfield was spotted leaving FirstEnergy Stadium with a soft wrap after suffering a bruised wrist, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported. The injury isn’t considered serious.

The Mayfield-led Browns had a penalty plagued game. The Browns committed 18 penalties for 182 yards – a league most in over 50 years.

Mayfield threw for 285 yards and a touchdown. He threw three interceptions in fourth-quarter that led to Browns' blowout 43-13 loss. The loss was Mayfield’s largest margin of defeat while in college or NFL. It was the Browns' 15th consecutive season-opener loss.

The Browns travel to the New York Jets (0-1) for a Monday Night Football contest next week.

Marquise Brown Records Two Touchdowns in NFL Debut

Baltimore Ravens WR Marquise Brown had a spectacular debut against Miami Dolphins in his hometown of Hollywood, Florida.

Dubbed “Hollywood” in college for his play making ability. Brown hauled in two touchdown grabs totaling 130 yards in his first two career catches in the Ravens' 59-10 win over the Dolphins.

Brown displayed his ability out-of-the-gate with 47-yard grab thrown by Lamar Jackson midway through the first quarter, followed by a 83-yard touchdown catch later in the quarter.



The 25th overall draft pick finished with four receptions for 147 yards and two touchdowns.

The speedster missed much of training camp recovering from LisFranc surgery in January after suffering the injury in Big 12 Championship against Texas. While at Oklahoma, Brown broke the school’s single game yardage record with 265 yards against Oklahoma State.

Baker Mayfield Elected Team Captain

Quarterback Baker Mayfield was named team captain of the Cleveland Browns only a year removed being drafted No. 1 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Mayfield, one of three teams captains, took over the team in week three of the 2018 season and led the team to a respectable 7-7 record. The Browns had previously won only a single game in 37 contests.

The former Oklahoma quarterback is joined by linebacker Christian Kirksey and special teamer Charley Hughlett as team captains, the team announced on Friday.

Browns' team captains are elected by their teammates and a fourth will be designated on a week-by-week basis.

The Browns host Tennessee Titans on Sunday at noon on CBS.

Linebacker Corey Nelson Impressing Broncos Coach

Former Oklahoma linebacker Corey Nelson is receiving high praise from Denver Broncos’ head coach Vic Fangio days after being signed to the team's 53-man roster.

Nelson, who was cut by Tampa Bay Buccaneers, joined the Broncos last week “has done extremely well,” Fangio told Zac Stevens, BSN Broncos beat writer.

Nelson “has done a very good job mentally learning the system and applying it out in practice. No complaints,” Fangio said.
