NORMAN — Coming of its worst offensive performance of the year, Oklahoma came up with its best.

One week after managing just a field goal in a 10-3 loss at Nebraska, the Sooners exploded for a season scoring high Saturday to pummel Texas A&M, 65-10.

But the big question is, can the Sooners do it in Lubbock?

We knew OU could put up the points at Owen Field.

In five home games, the Sooners have scored 64, 45, 33, 42 and now 65.

NORMAN — Coming off a three-point performance in a loss at Nebraska, the Oklahoma offense was in desperate need of big plays in both the running and passing games.

NORMAN — Going into the second quarter, Texas A&M was firmly in the game, down only 14-10 with Oklahoma about to punt.

But that's when the Aggie return teams began a meltdown.

NORMAN — Bob Stoops hinted that a change could be coming at kicker after redshirt freshman punter/kicker Tress Way hit just one of his four attempts in Oklahoma's 10-3 loss to Nebraska last week.

NORMAN — Brian Jackson wasn't going to let the quarterback get to him this time.

On the opening possession of Oklahoma's 65-10 win over Texas A&M, Jackson scooped up a Texas A&M fumble at the Oklahoma 47-yard line, and had just Aggie quarterback Jerrod Johnson to beat.

Tiny Gallon was a high school McDonald's All-American as was Tommy Mason-Griffin. Steven Pledger wasn't but he still arrived in Norman with a ton of accolades. All three were exceptional in their Sooner debuts on Saturday but none more than Pledger who led the Sooners to a 95-71 win over Mount Saint Mary's.

Tiny Gallon gave the Sooners a double-double in his regular season debut by scoring 18 points and grabbing, a Blake Griffin like, 15 rebounds. Unlike Griffin, Gallon went a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe. Tommy Mason-Griffin scored 11 points and dished out four assists as well. Andrew Fitzgerald, another Oklahoma freshman, scored 14 points and grabbed 5 boards coming off the bench but it was Pledger leading all scorers with 21 points.

Not only did Steven Pledger score nearly two dozen points, he did it on 8-9 shooting including 4-5 from three-point range.

"I was just running around, basically playing off of Willie driving to the basket," Pledger said. "Whenever he drives, I'm just sneaking around. I know he knows where I'm at. ... It's easy to play with big-name guys."

If Pledger keeps dropping off performances like this then he's going to quickly become one of those "big-name guys."

Landry Jones goes from 5 interceptions last week to 5 touchdowns this week. DeMarco Murray will make a run at the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week with 205 all-purpose yards. Oklahoma wrecked the wrecking crew defense with 6 offensive touchdowns and an average of 7.5 yards per play. Texas A&M had the Big 12's top offense coming into the game but only managed 152 yards against Oklahoma's defense.

What the Aggies are saying.

The 18th-ranked University of Oklahoma wrestling team won its 11th straight Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Classic title Saturday over an impressive field that included 2009 NCAA runner-up Ohio State and sixth place finisher Edinboro. Additionally, three Sooners claimed individual titles and seven more garnered top-four finishes. "This was an outstanding team performance," head coach Jack Spates said. "Everybody battled hard and our guys recorded some big upsets and we had some clutch performances."

On the same day his team opened its season with a 95-71 victory over Mount St. Mary's, Oklahoma men's basketball head coach Jeff Capel announced the signing of the second member of OU's 2010 recruiting class in top-30 high school senior Cameron Clark.

The University of Oklahoma men's cross country team finished second at the NCAA Midwest Regional Saturday in Springfield, Mo., to earn an automatic bid to participate in the 2009 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 23. With the performance, the team becomes the first in OU history to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Steven Pledger scored 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting and Oklahoma's much-heralded freshman class lifted the Sooners (No. 16 ESPN/USA Today, No. 17 AP) to a 95-71 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday. Another freshman, Keith "Tiny" Gallon, had 18 points and 15 rebounds, while sophomore Willie Warren added 15 points and a career-high 11 assists for his first double-double for Oklahoma, which has won 23 of its last 25 season openers.

The University of Oklahoma volleyball team got back in the win column Saturday morning, using the minimum sets to down Texas Tech (-15, -19, -21). The Sooners (18-8, 11-6 Big 12) got double-digit kill totals from two players and hit .241 as a team to down the Red Raiders (2-23, 0-16 Big 12).

Oklahoma hits the hardwood for keeps today for the first time of the 2009-10 season. Their opponent is Mount Saint Mary's from Emmitsburgh, Maryland. Before you write them off as a non-conference warm-up opponent there are some things that you need to know about them that actually qualifies them as a quality opponent. To help explain I'd like to introduce you to Greg Swatek, he covers the Mountaineers for the Frederick News-Post, who was gracious enough to help us get acclimated to OU's season opening opponent.

CC Machine: Give us a general description of the Mt. Saint Mary's basketball team and what the expectations are for this season.

GS: Expectations for the team are quite high. They were picked by the Northeast Conference coaches as the preseason No. 1 in the league. This is a team that went to the NCAA tournament in 2008 and won the play-in game. There are eight players from that team that are still on the roster, including five big contributors. Senior Jeremy Goode, a 5-9 speedy point guard, is generally considered to be the team's best player. The team does have some questions in the frontcourt. It doesn't have a player taller than 6-7 on the roster. The two main big men from last season graduated. Danielle Robinson and Amanda Thompson each scored 17 points and No. 13 Oklahoma opened the post-Courtney Paris era with a 108-66 win against Mercer on Friday night.Coming off the second Final Four appearance in school history, the Sooners (1-0) struggled for the first 7 1/2 minutes before taking the lead for good with a 15-0 run.

Oklahoma may have lost out on the Harrison Barnes sweepstakes but that doesn't mean that the week left Jeff Capel empty handed. Oklahoma picked up a commitment from Denison, Texas guard T.J. Taylor.

Taylor is 6-3, 205 lbs and was ranked as the nation's number 91^st player for the 2010 class by Rivals. He averaged 27.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.0 steals per game last year and has been an All-State pick as well as his districts offensive player of the year the last two seasons.

CC Machine: How bad did the Colorado loss hurt and what the heck happened to cause it?

BG: It always hurts to lose a game you think you should win, especially when you manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory like we did. When you enter the 4th quarter with a 10 point lead, you should win the game, and we made enough mistakes in the 4th to lose it. The game hurts us in that we could have been riding a 3-game winning streak coming into Norman tomorrow; instead, we're coming off a disappointing loss. Coach Sherman says he tries to approach every win and loss the same, because you always have to move on and prepare for the next game. The Colorado loss removes out margin of error concerning bowl eligibility, because a win there would have been our sixth, and guaranteed postseason play for our team. Now, we will face three teams in a span of twelve days to play our way into bowl eligibility; we can expect to be favored in only one of those games, so we have our work cut out for us. We lost to Colorado because we failed to stop them on defense in the 4th quarter, and we turned the ball over twice, once on offense and once on special teams. I'm back! Pardon my absence from the blogosphere but until running the Crimson And Cream Machine pays the bills I have to work the real job which requires traveling to Central/South America from time to time. I'd like to say thanks to dishingoutdimes for carrying the torch for me while I was gone. Great job!

1. We are three-fourths of the way through the season now, with either 2 or 3 games remaining for your respective teams. What players have surprised you, what players have disappointed you this year?

Offensively, I've actually been surprised with Ryan Broyles. We saw what he was capable of doing last season but didn't know how he would handle being the go-to guy. Its safe to state that he's been the lone bright spot on Oklahoma's this season. Especially when you consider how bad the other receivers have been.

As far as disappointments go for me let's just sum it up by naming every other offensive player other than Broyles.

Defensively Jeremy Beal has been amazing to watch. With all the talent and pro-stock on this unit he has been the shinning star on what has…

In 2009, Brent Venables has fielded one of his finest units as the defensive coordinator at Oklahoma. But unfortunately for the Sooners, injuries to the offensive side of the ball have kept the defense from receiving their due. Venables talked about holding his defense together through everything that's happened on the offensive side of the ball

The Sooners will be wearing specially designed, state-of-the-art Nike uniforms called Nike Pro Combat, which the company calls "football's lightest system of dress ever created.

To which I say, why not give the players more padding, given all of these injuries.

A couple of notes about the rumored uni's:

• The gloves will sport the word "Sooner" on the left wrist, and "Magic" on the right wrist.
• The helmet will be white, with a crimson stripe, and a gray facemask.
• When you create the "triangle" with your hands to catch a pass, you will be able to see an OU logo faintly in the glove material.

Brody Eldridge, considered OU's best all-around blocker, and Auston English, a standout defensive end, are both out for the season according to Bob Stoops.

In a cruel twist of irony, Eldridge wound up with almost exactly the same injury as Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Sam Bradford. The Oklahoman explains:

Eldridge suffered an AC sprain to his shoulder, similar to the injury that eventually knocked quarterback Sam Bradford out for the year. Eldridge tried to come back and play with the injury in the third quarter but only lasted a series.

Auston English, meanwhile, ruptured a tendon in his ankle in the first quarter. He will undergo season ending surgery on Tuesday morning.

This makes 9 OU starters that have been injured on the year, and four that have had their seasons cut short.

You hate to make excuses for poor performance, but this is just getting absurd.
