Vikings Coach: Sam Bradford Has Earned the Right to Start in 2017

The Minnesota Vikings don't yet know whether Teddy Bridgewater will be their starting quarterback again. Their future, instead, could be with former Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford.

Coach Mike Zimmer said in his season-ending press conference that Bradford "has earned the right to be the starting quarterback" after a year during which he set a NFL single-season record with a 71.6 completion percentage. Bradford, who came to Minnesota in a trade Sept. 3 with the Philadelphia Eagles after Bridgewater dislocated his left knee and tore his ACL on Aug. 30, threw for a career-high 3,877 yards and passed for 20 touchdowns against five interceptions.

Sam Bradford Sets NFL Record for Single-Season Completion Percentage

Former Sooner Sam Bradford may have been joined the Vikings ship late a little late, but he’s made his time in Minnesota count.

En route to a Vikings 38-10 win over the Bears Sunday, Bradford set the NFL record for single-season completion percentage, finishing his first season in purple at 71.6.

The previous record was held by Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who finished the 2011 season at 71.2. Bradford also set a franchise record for most completions in a season with 395. He surpassed Daunte Culpepper, who had 379 completions in 2004 and led the league and also topped Culpepper’s franchise-best completion percentage of 69.2 in 2004.

Sam Bradford on Verge of Setting NFL Record

The Vikings’ dink-and-dunk attack might land Sam Bradford in the NFL record book.

The quarterback has completed 71.6 percent of his passes this season. That’s on pace to break the mark of 71.2 percent set by Drew Brees of New Orleans in 2011.

Yes, Bradford, who completed 65 percent of his throws last season for Philadelphia, is an accurate guy. But his run to the record book really started because Pat Shurmur took over for Norv Turner as offensive coordinator on Nov. 2 and went to a short passing game to limit pressure on Bradford behind a porous and injury-riddled offensive line.

Sam Bradford Putting Up Solid Numbers As Vikings Quarterback

Playing in the constraints of a run-first offense, former Sooner Sam Bradford has done in eight games what he hasn’t done at any time in his career – have five individual games in which he had a passer rating of 100.0 or above.

In 2012 with the St. Louis Rams, he had four games with a passer rating of 100.0 or higher – but that came in 16 games in a season where he had a season-long passer rating of 82.6.

In 2015 with the Philadelphia Eagles, Bradford had four games with a passer rating of 100.0, but that came in 14 starts in a year where he had a passer rating of 86.4.

Philadelphia Trades Sam Bradford to Minnesota

The Minnesota Vikings acquired former Oklahoma and veteran QB Sam Bradford from the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday morning.

The move comes just days after Vikings starter Teddy Bridgewater suffered a season-ending knee injury in practice, and it seemingly makes Chase Daniel the Eagles' starter – at least until rookie Carson Wentz is healthy (broken ribs) and ready to take over.

Philly Coach: Sam Bradford's 'Best Days Are Ahead of Him'

Great news, skeptical Eagles fans: New coach Doug Pederson thinks this is the year former Sooner and current Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford puts it all together!

"His best days are ahead of him," Pederson said last week, viaPhillyMag.com. "What he did toward the end of the season last year, building on that. He mentioned continuity -- he knows the team, he knows the players. It might be a little different set of plays that we're installing, but he knows the guys. That right there leads me to believe that we can have success."

Jeff Fisher: Sam Bradford Ahead of Schedule on His Rehabilitation

St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher said Friday that former Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford is ahead of schedule on his rehabilitation, according to ESPN.com's Nick Wagoner.

Bradford sat out this season after tearing his ACL in a preseason game in August. He was limited to only seven games in 2013 with the same injury.

Fisher was also asked about a report that Bradford recently was granted permission to seek a trade. "I was surprised to hear that -- not surprised -- but no, that's inaccurate," Fisher said. "We talked about what our plans are for him." (SI.com)

Rams Look to Restructure Sam Bradford's Contract

Former Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford is set to make $12.985 million in the final year of his rookie contract, a number that is much too high for the injury-plagued quarterback.

According to the St. Louis Dispatch's Jim Thomas, the St. Louis Rams will seek to restructure the deal of the former No. 1 overall pick.

Bradford tore his ACL for the second time last year, missing all of the 2014 season. He's missed 25 of the past 32 games and 31 total over his five-year career.

How the Rams attempt to slice Bradford's contract will be interesting to follow. Thomas suggests the possibility of lopping off a portion and converting it into a series of incentives to allow the quarterback a chance to recoup some of the money. (NFL.com)

Sam Bradford Suffers Torn ACL in Preseason Game; Out for Season

When the St. Louis Rams played the Cleveland Browns Saturday night, the worst happened as former Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford left the game in the first quarter with an injury to his left leg. Bradford had surgery on his knee previously when he tore his ACL in week 7 last season.

Bradford took the hit to his knee from Browns defensive end Armonty Bryant, beating left tackle Jake Long, who is also returning from a torn ACL. Bradford walked off of the field under his own power.

Sam Bradford 'Unlikely' to Play in Rams' Preseason Opener

Former Oklahoma and current St. Louis quarterback Sam Bradford will likely miss the Rams' preseason opener on Friday against New Orleans, according to St. Louis coach Jeff Fisher.

Bradford, who suffered a torn ACL late October, has been taking all the reps with the first-team offense at training camp. But St. Louis doesn't want take any early chances with Bradford's surgically-repaired knee.

"He's done everything we needed to see right now at practice," said coach Jeff Fisher when speaking to the media Tuesday. "So he's going to play in the preseason, unlikely that he's going to play this week. But he'll get plenty of snaps with the starters because he needs to, he needs to get out there and work with Scott and the rest of the guys. But it's not because he can't, it's because it's our choice; as I have said before I'm really pleased with where he is and what he's doing. You see every day at practice he's doing something, that you just go, 'That's Sam', that's what we expect from him."

Friday's St. Louis-New Orleans game will be televised on NFL Network and locally in Oklahoma City on KWTV at 7 p.m. central time.
