Pete Carroll Shows Major Lack Of Class at Sanchez's Press Conference

Football News - J. Robert Byrom

I have never before had any disdain for Pete Carroll, I have always thought he was a class guy.  Yes, he did have the swagger of over confidence but that fit in perfectly in L.A.'s movie star hot shot culture.  However, yesterday he showed an enormous lack of class by what he said and how he acted at the Press conference. It is alright for a coach to want his players to stay, it is allright to voice your opinion, it is alright to disagree publicly with a players decision, but once that decision has been made, it is not alright to say how dumb it is and how disappointed you are at that players press conference. You should stand behind your player and congratulate them once they have made their decision. Actually, I can not at any time in the recent past remember a coach being argumentative about their players decision to go pro. Make no doubt about it, that was a temper tantrum from Pete Carroll, a small one but one none the less.

The worst part was walking of the stage before the conference was over and refusing to make eye contact with Sanchez. Where was that big hug you gave him after the Rose Bowl? What has changed, other than he has decided he is ready for the NFL now?

Coaches always talk about a team being a family and families support one another no matter what. So lets look at this from a family perspective.  You may not like the guy your sisters marrying but you plea with her in private, not in front of everyone. If she does decide to marry him anyway, you have plenty of time to tell her the mistake she made, their is no need to do it in the middle of her wedding.

By pleading his case infront of the media, Carroll definitely ruined Sanchez's moment and by refusing to even look at his star QB as he left well before the conference was over, he probably destroyed it for Sanchez.

Do not get me wrong, I still think Carroll is a great coach but he definitely lost respect with his actions yesterday.
