The epic OU-Miami rivalry was renewed on Sept. 8, 2007, when unranked Miami traveled to Norman to face No. 5 Oklahoma, the Hurricanes in two decades prior to the meeting had three wins over the Sooners.

However, the Sooners in the post Adrian Peterson era, and a then freshman quarterback Sam Bradford, faced a newly hired first-year head coach Randy Shannon. At the end of the day, after a 51-13 blowout win, Sam Bradford threw five touchdowns and a new era began.

Indications are Miami could very well play against Sam Bradford this weekend, the Oklahoma quarterback has split snaps with Landy Jones on the first-team offense this week, according to published reports.

The Oklahoman cited an unnamed source close to the program.

On Monday, Bradford rejoined the team in his first practice in full pads since suffering a sprained AC joint on Sept. 5 against BYU. Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Tuesday evening on his weekly radio program, quarterback Sam Bradford "looked good," although, he wouldn't commit to starting Bradford in Saturday's game.

One reason Bradford is probable to start this weekend, Bradford has not suffered any setbacks in his recovery.

"That's positive in that everything to this point that he has done he has handled in a positive way and he has made daily progress," Stoops said. "That part is encouraging. But it's just too early to determine his status for Saturday. I'm not able to give the answer yet, until we see what Sam's capable of throughout the week. Is he able to make all the throws? Is he able to do it without too much soreness? How does he react the next day?

"All of those things need to be determined, and they won't be determined until we get later in the week, probably sometime Thursday or Friday, and maybe Saturday, depending on how it goes."

Bradford in his only start against Miami (9/07) threw five touchdowns in OU's 51-13 victory.

No decision on Bradford: On Tuesday, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops wouldn't say if Bradford's separated throwing shoulder is healed enough for him to start Saturday. "I'd love to give you an answer so I don't have to answer it the entire week," Stoops said of Bradford's status, "but it's too early in the week and I'm not able to give the answer yet." TE Jermaine Gresham to enter the 2010 NFL Draft: Bob Stoops said Tuesday that injured tight end Jermaine Gresham will enter the NFL Draft after this season. "Jermaine's going to go into the draft," Stoops said. The discussion arose during Stoops' weekly press conference. He was asked if he regrets not encouraging Sam Bradford and Gresham to enter the draft after last season. "I don't get that and I don't think most people do," Stoops said. "For me to force a guy out ... What if it isn't the right decision? I don't need to tell you how things can always go in a draft, so in the end it's not my job to force a guy to come out." Broyles receives no punishment after leaking practice details: Sophomore receiver Ryan Broyles wasn't assigned any extra conditioning as punishment for releasing details of quarterback Sam Bradford's return. After Bradford returned to practice last Monday, Broyles said he saw the Heisman Trophy winner throwing short passes, prompting coach Bob Stoops to say he was "disappointed" some of his players had so much to say about the return. "I can't say anything now, I learned my lesson," Broyles said. "But he didn't address anybody by name, he just said overall." (The Oklahoman)

In case you missed it over the weekend, as I did, Oklahoma linebacker Mike Balogun was denied his final appeal by the NCAA's committee on Amateurism Certification, according to his attorney Woody Glass.

Glass told the Star-Telegram.

"I am so disapointed for Mike," Glass said. "His only avenue now is in the courts."

With that statement, Balogun's collegiate career is likely over. Oklahoma is unlikely to challenge the ruling in the courts, considering NCAA can penalize any team who allows a student-athlete to play under a court order and that order is later to be found unjustified.

Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford continued to practice with OU's first team offense Monday, furthering speculation Bradford might play Saturday against No. 17 Miami, although no decision has been made about Bradford's status, coach Bob Stoops said.

"It will be determined on how we go through the week, on how he performs, on how he feels," Stoops said.

Last weekend, Sam Bradford, the Oklahoma Heisman Trophy winning quarterback seeked the opinion from world-renowned sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews.

Meanwhile, Miami coach Randy Shannon said they will prepare for the Oklahoma offense and not either Sam Bradford or Landy Jones.

The No. 8 Sooners travel to Miami play the Hurricanes Saturday 7:00 p.m./CT on ABC.

Stoops: Sam Bradford's recovery is "progressing": Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops refused to discuss the chances of quarterback Sam Bradford playing against Miami Saturday, but gave a rosy outlook Monday morning on the Big 12 coaches teleconference. Late Friday night, 16 WAPT Sports can confirm that Heisman trophy winner Sam Bradford of Oklahoma is on his way to Birmingham, Ala., to meet with world renowned sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Bradford sprained his AC joint in his throwing shoulder before halftime in Oklahoma's 14-13 loss to BYU in their first game of the season on Sept. 5. Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops said the initial evaluations by doctors showed that Bradford did not suffer any damage to his collarbone, rotator cuff or other parts of his shoulder. Bob and Carol Stoops donate 150k to OU Business School: To benefit University of Oklahoma business students, Bob and Carol Stoops are making a $150,000 gift to support junior faculty who are vital to the classroom as they advance professionally.

The gift from Bob, a 1983 marketing graduate from the University of Iowa, and Carol, an entrepreneur, establishes the Bob Stoops Business Faculty Fellow Program within the Michael F. Price College of Business. The program will assist untenured assistant professors in the college with their research into the areas of accounting, finance, management, management information systems and marketing and supply chain management.

"We all value exceptional faculty members," Coach Stoops said. "I had a number of good instructors during my time in the business school at Iowa and was unaware at that time that donors were contributing to the overall health of the university and my education," he said. "It is gratifying for Carol and me to help out in this way now. We hope that this program will ultimately benefit OU students. Sooners' QB Landry Jones named Big 12 Offensive Play of the Week: Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones, who set a school record with six touchdown passes in the Sooners' 45-0 win over Tulsa last Saturday, has been named the Big 12 Conference's Offensive Player of the Week. Making just the second start of his career, the redshirt freshman broke the mark previously held by Heisman Trophy winners Sam Bradford and Jason White along with Heisman runner-up Josh Heupel. Oklahoma LB Balogun won't play for Sooners this season: Oklahoma linebacker Mike Balogun won't be playing for the Sooners this season. Woody Glass, Balogun's attorney, said Monday morning the fact-finding wing of the NCAA has sided with the NCAA's original ruling that Balogun played semi-pro football after his 21st birthday and is out of eligibility. "The writing is clearly on the wall," Glass said. "They made the finding Mike played in 2004, 2005 and 2006." Balogun turned 21 in September of 2004. Cameron Kenney to star again at WR: Junior-college transfer Cameron Kenney will make his second consecutive start at wide receiver this weekend against Tulsa, receivers coach Jay Norvell confirmed. Kenney also started last weekend in place of Adron Tennell, and had a 15-yard catch on a slant route. But another reason why Kenney is getting the nod is because of how he blocked in the run game against Idaho State. "I enjoy blocking. Fan Fest canceled due to rain: University of Oklahoma and Sooner Sports Properties officials announced Thursday that Fan Fest activities before this week's Oklahoma-Tulsa game have been cancelled due to wet grounds. Fan Fest is an interactive fan area that is open prior to OU home football games. It is located on the infield of John Jacob Track. "The grounds were soft for last week's game and we've had more rain since that time," Eric Barnhart, general manager of SSP, said in a release. Several Sooners had first career start: One week after a penalty-filled effort against BYU, Oklahoma's offensive line was flagged just once Saturday night, on Jarvis Jones' false start in the second quarter. OU coaches said changes would be made, and they were. Ben Habern got his first start at center, true freshman Tyler Evans got his first start at right guard and Stephen Good made his first start at left guard. Owens out: Sophomore receiver Jameel Owens did not dress for the game. Owens had missed practice earlier in the week. Rumors of his transfer leaked earlier in the week, but Owens' family said on Friday he has no plans to do so. Owens was still on the team as of Saturday. (The Oklahoman)

Sam Bradford talks about injury: Injured Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford gave a live telephone interview to the ESPN pregame show "College Gameday" on Saturday morning. Although the projection for his return is two to four weeks, Bradford reminded viewers that it could be slightly shorter or much longer. "Everyone I talk to, there's really not a certain timeline for as soon as I'll be back," Bradford said. "There's been so many different numbers. Oklahoma storms pass Idaho State 64-0: Freshman quarterback Landry Jones threw three touchdown passes in his first career start and No. 13 Oklahoma routed Idaho State 64-0 on Saturday night. Jones, replacing injured Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford, found a favorite target in Ryan Broyles, who caught scoring passes of 24, 51 and 11 yards and finished with seven catches for 155 yards for Oklahoma (1-1), which bounced back from a season-opening loss to BYU. JUCO star Cameron Kenney to play: Once the rage of preseason camp, Oklahoma's Cameron Kenney didn't get a look at wide receiver in last week's loss to BYU. "It's hard to play in a no-huddle offense and play at a high tempo if you've never been on the field in a game," position coach Jay Norvell said, noting Kenney is a junior college transfer adjusting to OU's offense. "We wanted to give him an extra week of practice. But he's been doing really well and working hard." After watching his receivers struggle to catch, compete, route-run and block against BYU, Norvell is ready to give Kenney a shot Saturday against Idaho State. Norvell: Oklahoma WRs played 'average': Junior Brandon Caleb led Oklahoma in receiving against BYU, despite having only 57 yards on four catches, both career highs. His output was lower than any leading receiver in the entire 2008 season. "I thought it was pretty average effort by our guys," said receivers coach Jay Norvell, who was complimentary of Caleb. Tickets still available for Idaho State, Tulsa games: A limited number of tickets have been returned by visiting teams for the upcoming Idaho State and Tulsa football games and are on sale now. Tickets are $49 for the Sooners' 2009 home opener this Saturday vs. Idaho State and $69 for the Golden Hurricane's visit on Sept. 19. Brody Eldridge suffers broken finger in loss to BYU: The Tulsa World is reporting, Brody Eldridge, the most effective member of Oklahoma’s lackluster offensive line Saturday, has a broken bone in his finger, coach Bob Stoops confirmed Wednesday after practice. Eldridge did participate in Wednesday's practice and is expected to play Saturday against Idaho State. Earlier this week, OU coaches said Eldridge was working more at tight end, his position the past three years, than at center, where he started in the Sooners' 14-13 loss to BYU. Gresham out for season after having season-ending knee surgery: Oklahoma tight end Jermaine Gresham, a preseason All-American, will miss the 2009 season after undergoing knee surgery, Tuesday. The senior led OU in touchdown receptions last season with 14. "We feel badly for Jermaine," said OU Head Coach Bob Stoops. "He worked very hard and very selflessly to get himself ready for the season. We share in the disappointment he is experiencing now and will do everything we can to help him in his rehab efforts. "The good news is that he is expected to heal fully. Many athletes have had this procedure and bounced back at 100 percent. We expect that to be the case for Jermaine." Sam Bradford to miss 2-4 weeks due to injury: Injured Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford said Monday he hopes to be back on the field in 2-4 weeks and has ruled out surgery as an option to mend a third-degree separated shoulder in his throwing arm. "It feels a lot better," he said. "It's not nearly as painful as it was Saturday. "Hopefully it can keep progressing like this." For the Sooners, the timing couldn't be any better. Coach stoops confirms QB Sam Bradford's sprain: From Sportsline.com ... Sam Bradford has a Grade 2 or 3 shoulder sprain and evaluation of the injury could be "fairly long process, probably a week or two," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said on Monday's Big 12 conference call. One medical web site describes a Grade 2 spain as "partial tearing of ligament and capsular tissue" with mild instability in the joint. Grade 3 is described as, "severe or complete tearing of ligament and capsular tissue," with significant instability of the joint. "A lot depends on how he heals," Stoops added. "It's going to be a while before we know what the plan will be." Treatment options include rest, icing of the injured area, followed by rehab. The web site stated that surgery is "rarely needed" in such cases. Stoops' revelation is the most detailed description of Bradford's injury since he went down Saturday night against BYU. The latest on Sam Bradford: Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said Sunday there has been no update to the shoulder injury suffered by quarterback Sam Bradford since Saturday night's loss to BYU in Arlington, Texas. "We're pursuing every option of rehab and timelines and estimates of what's in their best interest," Wilson said. Bradford suffered a Acromioclavicular (AC) joint sprain late in the first half Saturday when he was driven to the turf by BYU linebacker Coleby Clawson. Arlington game cost Norman businesses millions: Sooner fans are headed across the Red River for Saturday's big game in Arlington, but the University of Oklahoma's decision to move the first game out of Norman will cost the city millions. Usually a home game brings a bonanza of business to businesses around campus. "Game days here, our business probably jumps four or five hundred percent, and when it's away, it's just like a normal day," said Suzi Cohen, Campus Corner merchant. So on home game days, all of Campus Corner benefits and so does all of Norman. "Well, we estimate about $8.8 million new dollars comes into the community with a home football game," said Stephen Koranda, Norman Convention and Visitors' Bureau. (More at News9.com)

Attorney: Sooners linebacker Balogun will not likely be re-certified: The Fort Worth Star-Telegram is reporting, NCAA will likely not reinstate Mike Balogun's eligibility according to his attorney. And the Balogun saga will drag out for weeks to come.

"I am confident they will not certify him," attorney Woody Glass said. "If [the staff] was going to certify him, they would have done it a long, long time ago."

However, if Balogun is denied eligibility that's not the final judgement, NCAA's committee on Amateurism Certification could have the final ruling.

"If we cannot agree, we will submit our proposed findings of fact. The two position statements will then be submitted to a fact finding committee that will resolve the factual issues. Once the factual issues are decided, the case gets submitted to the Amateurism Certification Committee for decision."

Mike Balogun's attorney confident NCAA will certify linebacker: Woody Glass, the attorney for University of Oklahoma linebacker Mike Balogun, told the Star-Telegram that he's confident his client will be certified to play this season.

"I'm frustrated that it's taken this long and continue to press toward a deadline that we believed would concur with my agreement to suspend the [civil court] hearing on a permanent injunction," Woody Glass said after two days with an NCAA investigator in the Maryland area. "That has yet to occur. But I still feel confident based on everything that has happened that Mike will be certified -- sooner, hopefully, than later."

Glass and a NCAA investigator spent Monday and Tuesday interviewing a person with knowledge of Balogun's semi-pro career, though, Glass is unable to comment on the interview.

"Because of some confidentiality that I have agreed to with the NCAA, I cannot discuss at this time what the content of the [interview] was," Glass said. "But I think that people can read into that, that I still feel confident that Mike will be certified."

Mike Balogun's eligibility was decertified on Aug. 14 by the NCAA.

Stoops: Jermaine Gresham will miss season opener: Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops announced today that tight end Jermaine Gresham will miss Saturday's season opener against Brigham Young due to a knee injury. The senior has cartilage damage in his right knee and the evaluation process is continuing. Stoops said that Gresham along with team doctors and athletic training staff are considering treatment options that could have a bearing on his return.(SoonerSports PR)

Balogun's attorney in Maryland: Fort Worth Star-Telegram is reporting.. Woody Glass, the attorney for senior linebacker Mike Balogun, was in Maryland on Monday and Tuesday, re-interviewing principals in the linebacker's case with an NCAA investigator. At the heart of the matter is whether Balogun, now 25, played semi-pro football after turning 21, which would make him ineligible this season. (Star-Telegram)

Eldridge earns high praise from Coach Wilson: Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson threw an incredible amount of praise on center/tight end Brody Eldridge Tuesday. Eldridge was announced as the starter at center against BYU. He was a starter at either tight end or fullback the last three seasons. Despite weighing just 265 pounds, Wilson believes Eldridge is the cream of the crop of OU's offensive line. "Brody is as good as the guy who played last year (Jon Cooper) right now," Wilson said. "He blocks those big guys we've got that are as good as anybody we'll see right now." (Norman Transcript)

Sooner fans can take a deep sigh, University of Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Tuesday, the school is not exploring more neutral site games that may take games away from the campus in Norman, Oklahoma.

The Sooners open their 2009 season on the road (only second time in Bob Stoops era) in Arlington, Texas at Dallas Cowboys Stadium against BYU, the game was proposed by ESPN executives. Some Sooner fans have voiced concerned that the school is taking home games to neutral-sites in exchange for a payout or television exposure.

Bob Stoops addressed the issue at his weekly news conference

"I don't think anybody's looking to take games away from Norman, Okla., very often," Stoops said Tuesday. "I know (athletic director) Joe (Castiglione) is very sensitive to that. I don't know what the numbers are but in this community, for our university, for the whole community and the town, you don't want to see it very much. We're not looking to do it very much at all."

The University will get a $2.25 million payout for playing BYU at Cowboys Stadium.

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops announced Tuesday at his weekly news conference OU linebacker Austin Box will backup Ryan Reynolds at middle linebacker and freshman LB Ronnell Lewis could see playing time this Saturday.

The announcement came a day following the release of Oklahoma's depth chart and news linebacker Mike Balogun would not travel with the Sooners to compete against BYU due eligibility issues. OU's inital depth chart had Balogun listed as the backup at middle linebacker and Box listed as backup to Travis Lewis.

Third-ranked Sooners play No. 20 BYU at Dallas Cowboys Stadium this Saturday.

Mike Stoops is giving advice on BYU in preparation for Saturday's game: BYU's last opponent -- in the 2008 Las Vegas Bowl -- was Arizona, a team coached by OU coach Bob Stoops' brother, Mike Stoops . Another brother, Mark Stoops , is Arizona's defensive coordinator. Rest assured that the brothers have talked about BYU, Bob Stoops said. "I am close enough with my brother that we are going to talk about a common opponent. So, yeah, we definitely did," Stoops said. "When you are playing a team you don't have a lot of familiarity with, where you don't play the year in and year out, you talk to other people who do." BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said that after watching Oklahoma film, he has noticed a lot of "philosophical" similarities between OU and Arizona. "Knowing that it is a coaching family, we are certainly not underestimating the transfer of knowledge from one program to the other, so we are not going to be an unknown to them," Mendenhall said. "Nor would I assume that they are putting extra, undue emphasis on us." (Salt Lake Tribune)

Rashod Favors verbally commits to Oklahoma: Oklahoma has reportedly received a verbal commitment from Rashod Favors, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound linebacker from Dunbar High School in Texas. According to Scout.com network Web site SoonersIllustrated.com, Favors said OU defensive coordinator Brent Venables is "looking at me as a hybrid safety. ... As a rover and maybe a linebacker, too." (Tulsa World) Favors is Oklahoma's 23rd verbal commitment of the 2010 class.
